Code of Ethics


A reflexologist communicates with an open mind and a peaceful presence while recognizing his/her relationship to the client as a serious respons(e)(a)-bility.  The art and science of Reflexology is an Honorable one!  Therefore, as a professional reflexologist,  I shall:

  1. Conduct myself in a professional, honest, and ethical manner at all times.

  2. Adhere to the ARCB Professional Business Standards.

  3. Not infringe on any other professions' scope of practice, and perform only those services for which I am qualified and/or licensed to provide.

  4. Accurately represent my competence, education, training and experience.

  5. Not present myself as a medical practitioner. I shall refer clients to medical or other healthcare professionals when appropriate.

  6. Treat other reflexologists and health care professionals in a courteous and respectful manner at all times

  7. Establish and maintain trust in the client-practitioner relationship.

  8. Treat every client with the same kind, ethical attitude.

  9. Keep all client information and conversations strictly confidential

  10. Work within the client's comfort zone and pain tolerance.

  11. Keep the standard of my professional work current and as high as possible by continuing my Reflexology education and training, and attending conferences.

  12. Ensure that anyone employed by me or working in my office shall also adhere to this Code of Ethics.

ARCB Professional Business Standards and Conduct


As a professional Reflexologist who is certified and registered with the ARCB  I shall:

  1. Adhere to the ARCB code of ethics and all other rules and regulations.

  2. Work within the guidelines of the federal state and local laws.

  3. Not claim to cure or heal ailments, or to treat for any specific illnesses on my business cards or in other printed materials.  This applies  also to any verbal statements I may make.

  4. Display my reflexology certification and association certificates in my office along with the ARCB Code of Ethics.

  5. Post on the wall a full and fair disclosure of services, a disclaimer, and a notice of complaint*.

  6. Know a definition of reflexology. Explain what reflexology is and what the client can expect before or during the first session.

  7. Relate to the client my policy regarding fees,  scheduling procedures, hours, the result of tardiness on the part of the client, and missed appointments.

  8. Keep an appointment book and record of all clients' names and telephone numbers.

  9. Keep financial records and bills in order, up-to-date and neat.

  10. Keep my office organized and neat also.

  11. Have the client fill out a history form.

  12. Have the client read and sign both a consent to session form and client disclosure/informed choice statement before the first session begins.*

  13. Make a visual observation of the feet before beginning and adhere to contraindication guidelines.

  14. Document each session.

  15. Furnish a written receipt upon request.

  16. Wear suitable professional attire that is neat and clean.

  17. Wash my hands and under my nails thoroughly before and after a session.

  18. Use clean linens for each client.

  19. If using another discipline with reflexology, clearly state that it is not reflexology.

  20. Never take advantage of the client/practitioner relationship, nor misuse it by dating or participating in sexual activity with a client.

  21. Only advertise in a proper and professional manner for the purpose of informing the public, about reflexology, my qualifications, areas of specialized practice and the address of my office.

  22. Not use titles or descriptions which give the impression of medical or other qualifications to which I am not entitled.

  23. Never prescribe, diagnose, prognosticate, treat for a specific illness or adjust medication.

  24. The use of tools and/or mechanical devices not approved by the FDA for use in reflexology is discouraged because of legal liability and falls outside the scope of ARCB Certification..

  25. Voluntary surrender and return to the ARCB the ARCB  pin, certificate, I.D. card, and to  forgo the use of the title, "ARCB Certified Reflexologist" if I am found to have transgressed any rules of the professional business and ethical codes.

* These procedures are recommended by the California Bureau for Medical Quality Assurance as being part of a full and fair disclosure policy, but at this time they are considered optional by the ARCB.
