Building a Stronger Reflexology Profession
|
Our foundational documents require ARCB to be primarily a testing agency but to also support our Certificants through Continuing Education, Ethics & Professional Standards, and Legislation to build a strong reflexology profession.
In doing so, ARCB is consistently looking for ways to promote reflexology into new communities, expand ARCB Certificant's professional opportunities, and partner with other healthcare practitioners and researchers. Our partnerships with CompanyOn and Foot Care Nurses is just the start!

As part of ARCB's efforts to educate other healthcare professions as to the benefits and research supported results of reflexology, members of the ARCB Board of Directors were invited to attend the American Foot Care Nurses 2025 Conference in Minneapolis, MN. Over the three (3) days of the conference, we introduced reflexology and its benefits to foot care nurses and podiatrists through presentations, demonstrations, hands-on sessions, and small group discussions. As with everywhere that it goes, reflexology was an overwhelming success!

Safeguarding Your Right to Practice

The 2025 legislative season is over in most states, with over 8 states introducing bills that affect reflexologists credentialing and their right to practice. Reflexologists successfully maintained their exemption from massage law in Oregon and restored the exemption in West Virginia. Although the bills clarifying the distinction between reflexology and massage did not pass in North Carolina & Connecticut, efforts are underway to reintroduce improved bills next year. Unfortunately, as the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards seeks to build interstate massage compacts (IMpacts) they first must establish similar Massage Licensing Board laws in each state. It is this legislation on Massage Licensing Board law that has been removing reflexology exemptions and or wrapping reflexology into the definition of massage (MA, NY, MD, NC). To date, massage compact laws have passed in 5 states (VA, OH, AR, NV, MT), legislation introduced in 4 states (NY, NC, GA, IL), and plans were announced to introduce legislation in 26 more states in 2026.
Look for updates to the ARCB Certificant Toolbox with training and templates for contacting your legislator, the legislative process, and responding to legislation affecting Reflexology in your state. ARCB is here to support all state reflexology organizations and ARCB Certificants with legislation in your state - for free.
