Professional Reflexology is built upon three essential pillars: quality education, demonstrated competency, and ongoing professional engagement. While several national and state organizations contribute to the advancement of the profession, each has a distinct mission and plays an important role in supporting practitioners and protecting the public.

Education

A strong professional foundation begins with quality education. The National Council of Reflexology Educators (NCRE) promotes excellence in reflexology education by recognizing schools and instructors that meet established educational standards. Students who choose an NCRE-approved school or instructor can be confident they are receiving education aligned with recognized educational benchmarks and best practices.

Professional Competency

Education is the first step; demonstrating competency is the next. The American Reflexology Certification Board (ARCB) is the nation's independent certification body for reflexologists. Unlike educational institutions or membership organizations, ARCB does not teach reflexology or represent practitioners. Instead, ARCB establishes nationally recognized standards for professional competency through eligibility requirements, a psychometrically validated certification examination, continuing education requirements, and a Code of Ethics.

ARCB certification provides independent verification that a practitioner has demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and professional judgment necessary to meet nationally recognized standards of professional competency. This independent assessment helps protect the public while promoting confidence in the reflexology profession.

Professional Engagement

Professional growth continues long after education and certification. The Reflexology Association of America (RAA) serves as the national professional membership association for reflexologists, supporting the profession through advocacy, public awareness, networking, leadership development, and professional resources. Likewise, state reflexology associations provide opportunities for local networking, continuing education, mentoring, community outreach, and legislative advocacy that reflects the needs of practitioners within their respective states.
